This is a two year course which is equivalent to two A Levels. There are six mandatory units to give learners an introduction to key areas of business. These units will be assessed internally and externally. An additional two units will also be studied in more specialist areas of business.
Learners gain an overview of how businesses succeed, how they are organised, how they communicate, the environment in which they operate, and how this shapes them. Learners will look at the importance of innovation, the success and survival of businesses, and the associated risks and benefits.
Developing a Marketing Campaign
Learners examine the marketing aims and objectives for existing products/services and understand the importance of relevant, valid and appropriate research in relation to customers’ needs and wants. This unit is externally assessed.
Personal and Business Finance
Learners are introduced to accounting terminology, the purpose and importance of business accounts and the different sources of finance available to businesses. Planning tools, such as cash flow forecasts and break-even, will be prepared and analysed.

Managing an Event
Learners will investigate a number of successful events and use this research to assess the feasibility of events which they plan and run themselves. Learners will then evaluate the success of their event.
Learners will investigate the economic environment and cultural factors in international markets and the influence they have on how business is conducted.
Principles of Management
Learners will examine management styles, and investigate some of the issues that managers have to deal with in the workplace in making businesses more efficient and ensuring their survival and growth. This unit is externally assessed.
Recruitment and Selection Process (TBC)
Learners will understand that successful recruitment is key to maintaining the success of a business, as people are often considered to be the most valued resource.
Creative Promotion (TBC)
This unit will develop your understanding of the ways in which businesses communicate with current and potential customers for promotional purposes.
